Sparks
Sparks is for Kindergarten through 2nd graders. When a Sparks clubber attends club for the very first time, they begin with an entrance booklet called Flight 3:16, where they learn to memorize John 3:16. When a clubber can recite that verse and has attended club a second night, they will receive their first handbook and a vest. The vests are intended to last the clubber all three years of their Sparks journey, so staff typically provides a large enough size for them to grow into.
Sparks do not receive a snack on a regular basis. If we serve food for a special event, we will ask for allergy information, but please notify Emily Gwin (724-601-8268) if your clubber has an allergy. Clubbers will have access to restrooms and water fountains throughout each club night.
There are three Sparks handbooks: HangGlider (green), Wing Runner (blue), and Sky Stormer (red). The books must be completed in order. If a kindergartener finishes the HangGlider book before the end of the year, they will be encouraged to do a review book before moving on to Wing Runner. If a second grader attends Awana for the first time, staff will work with them to complete all three books in a year to earn the Sparks Award trophy. Clubbers receive a set of wings as they work through the handbook, and they earn jewels as they complete sections and memorize verses.
Staff will work with each clubber to try to complete at least one section a night. Clubbers are rewarded when they complete at least two sections on a club night. They earn extra Awana bucks, and they have a shot at earning a prize from the prize box.
